According to an official statement, the United Arab Emirates has concluded negotiations to launch an aerial taxi service in Dubai by 2026. The Joby Aviation S4 Aerial taxi is a part of the upcoming mobility initiatives of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of the United Arab Emirates, aiming to seamlessly integrate into Dubai's public transit network. The flying taxi, with four passenger capacity, offers a maximum distance coverage of 161 kilometers and a high speed of up to 321 kilometers per hour.

The transportation service will be hosted at four locations close to Downtown, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai International Airport. The network of vertiports, managed by Skyports, will be designed to promote multimodal transit and easy access. The legal and practical foundation for aerial taxi operations in the emirate is being developed in collaboration with the General Civil Aviation Authority, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and other pertinent organizations.

The announcement marks a pioneering leap forward for the UAE’s air transport sector, with the potential to bring about unparalleled change, making the nation's urban transportation system more adaptable and sustainable. An aerial taxi ride from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to take 10 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by automobile.

The signing ceremony was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and ruler of Dubai, before the World Governments Summit. The UAE Minister of Economy stated that the project will revolutionize urban transportation, making it more adaptable and sustainable.
